Electricity price in Finland: today, tomorrow and 7-day forecast

Outlook · Reactor and import gap until Monday, windy from Tuesday

Friday is settled at 14.85 ct on average after Olkiluoto 1 tripped for a one-day repair, with 26–27 ct at 09–11. Saturday stays near 9.5 ct with light wind (14 km/h), Sunday eases to about 5, and Monday rises again to 8–13 as the import from Sweden is cut to 400 MW. From Tuesday a gale (32 km/h) brings prices back to 1–3 ct with nights near zero.

Why: Olkiluoto 3 (1600 MW) is out until 7 November, Ringhals 3 and 4 until mid-November and Forsmark 1 until December, and the Swedish link into Finland is reduced to 400 MW from Monday 08:00 to Saturday 7 November for substation works. Olkiluoto 1 is due back Saturday 03:00 and Loviisa 1 is at full power again. Finnish wind: 14 km/h Saturday, 21 Sunday, 16 Monday, 21–33 Tuesday to Friday, with the first frosts (−2 °C) midweek.

Practical: Avoid 08–11 and 17–20 on Saturday and Monday (12–16 ct); charge and heat water at 00–05 (2–5 ct) or on Sunday. From Tuesday almost any hour is cheap; Tuesday night and Thursday are the cheapest of the week.

Main risk: The chart carries +1 ct on Monday daytime and evening for the Swedish import cut. Another reactor trip would add 3–5 ct to any calm day; a slower Tuesday front keeps Tuesday morning near 5 ct.

Frequently asked questions

What is the electricity spot price in Finland?

The spot price is the wholesale exchange price for electricity in the selected bidding zone and delivery interval. A spot-price contract follows those intervals; a fixed-price contract follows your supplier's agreed tariff. The chart separates published day-ahead prices from Wattcast forecasts.

How much does 1 kWh of electricity cost?

Use the chart to see the price for the hour or 15-minute interval when you consume electricity. 10 EUR/MWh equals 1 cent/kWh. Multiply the price per kWh by your consumption in kWh to estimate the energy cost. Your bill also depends on taxes, network fees and your supplier's charges.

Why does the electricity price change, and can it be negative?

Demand, wind and solar generation, fuel costs, power plant availability and cross-border connections affect prices. Prices can fall below zero when supply is abundant relative to demand. A negative exchange price does not necessarily mean a negative final bill: network fees, taxes and contract terms still apply.

When is electricity cheapest?

Usually at night between about 01:00 and 05:00 and, on windy or sunny days, around midday. The cheapest-windows tool on this page lists the exact hours for today, tomorrow and the next 48 hours.

When are tomorrow's prices published?

Nord Pool publishes the day-ahead prices every day at about 13:45 EET (12:45 CET). Wattcast shows them within 15 minutes; the forecast covers the days after that.

How accurate is the forecast?

The forecast is statistical: a machine-learning model trained on price history and weather forecasts. The Accuracy page shows the mean absolute error per horizon, both from backtests and from the forecasts actually published. The p10–p90 band is designed to contain the settled price about 80% of the time.

Do the prices include VAT and network fees?

No. The exchange price is shown without VAT (a toggle adds it), network fees, excise or the supplier's margin. Your bill adds those on top of the exchange price.
