Why: Plavinas (908 MW) is out from Saturday 00:00 to Sunday midnight for a drainage inspection and Kegums is held at minimum, so Latvia loses its cheapest peak capacity for two days; Riga CHP-1 runs at half power until Saturday. With gas at 98 €/MWh a combined-cycle plant needs about 21 ct, a peaker 31. Olkiluoto 3 is out until 7 November and from Monday Sweden's export to Finland is cut to 400 MW, so less cheap power reaches the Baltics. Wind in Latvia: 21 km/h Saturday, 12 Sunday, 16 Monday, 24–32 Tuesday to Friday.

Practical: Until Monday, use 00–05 (12–13 ct, the only cheap hours) and avoid 08–10 and 17–20 (18–27 ct). From Tuesday, nights fall to 5–8 ct and flexible loads belong in Tuesday–Thursday nights.

Main risk: The chart carries +0.5 to +1.5 ct Saturday, +1.5 to +2.5 Sunday and +3 to +4 Monday in daytime and evening hours for the hydro outage, calm gas-priced days and the Swedish import cut. An early Plavinas return lowers Sunday evening by 2–3 ct; a slower Tuesday front keeps that morning near 15 ct.

Frequently asked questions

What is the electricity spot price in Latvia?

The spot price is the wholesale exchange price for electricity in the selected bidding zone and delivery interval. A spot-price contract follows those intervals; a fixed-price contract follows your supplier's agreed tariff. The chart separates published day-ahead prices from Wattcast forecasts.

How much does 1 kWh of electricity cost?

Use the chart to see the price for the hour or 15-minute interval when you consume electricity. 10 EUR/MWh equals 1 cent/kWh. Multiply the price per kWh by your consumption in kWh to estimate the energy cost. Your bill also depends on taxes, network fees and your supplier's charges.

Why does the electricity price change, and can it be negative?

Demand, wind and solar generation, fuel costs, power plant availability and cross-border connections affect prices. Prices can fall below zero when supply is abundant relative to demand. A negative exchange price does not necessarily mean a negative final bill: network fees, taxes and contract terms still apply.

When is electricity cheapest?

Usually at night between about 01:00 and 05:00 and, on windy or sunny days, around midday. The cheapest-windows tool on this page lists the exact hours for today, tomorrow and the next 48 hours.

When are tomorrow's prices published?

Nord Pool publishes the day-ahead prices every day at about 13:45 EET (12:45 CET). Wattcast shows them within 15 minutes; the forecast covers the days after that.

How accurate is the forecast?

The forecast is statistical: a machine-learning model trained on price history and weather forecasts. The Accuracy page shows the mean absolute error per horizon, both from backtests and from the forecasts actually published. The p10–p90 band is designed to contain the settled price about 80% of the time.

Do the prices include VAT and network fees?

No. The exchange price is shown without VAT (a toggle adds it), network fees, excise or the supplier's margin. Your bill adds those on top of the exchange price.
